This is a democracy.

This morning I took the time to chat with the protestors outside Tynwald.

These are ordinary people - although many would say extraordinary - who have had their lives turned upside down by the proposed offshore wind farm, much like the residents at Earystane facing the proposed onshore development.

They have devoted countless hours to researching the proposals, attending meetings, reading reports, and standing up for what they genuinely believe in.

Too often those who raise concerns are dismissed or labeled as being against progress, my experience is very different. I met thoughtful, informed and passionate local people who simply want decisions of this scale to be transparent, evidence based, and in the best interest of our island.

Whether you support or oppose the proposed offshore windfarm, we should all respect the right of residents to question, challenge and hold decision-makers to account.

This is democracy.
